Friends,
As many of you know, today is National Coming Out Day.
In what could be alternately described as a coincidence or a cruel irony, this year it falls on the same week that the Supreme Court heard arguments about whether or not it is legal to discriminate against someone solely for their sexual orientation or gender identity.
And the same week that the president and his administration sided with bigotry in these arguments.
To think that my child could be denied employment, housing, or even medical care simply because of who they are is frightening. To think that their government condones such discrimination is infuriating.
One of the great joys of my life is seeing how far the fight for LGBTQ equality has come. It wasn't that long ago that the idea of seeing full marriage equality in all 50 states or talented trans actors on our TV screens was a pipe dream.
But the fight for justice is neither short nor linear. The history of civil rights in America shows us we must stay vigilant, especially with the imminent threats we face from this president and his judicial appointments.
If you stand with LGBTQ Americans, today is a great day to make that known. Add your name to mine to show your support.

If today is a difficult day for you, I hope it lands softly. And know you always have an ally in me.
In solidarity,
Pramila
