![]() Even if you avoid politics, you have a BIG role in killing two bulldozer bills that can wipe away YOUR block under the unprecedented and anti-homeowner bills SB 9 and SB 10.
Your KEY ROLE: In a few easy steps your street or community can hold a zoom with your Assemblymember. Yes, they listen carefully to constituents.
Legislators are swamped by 1,500 laws yearly. Many legislators don’t realize that outrageous SB 9 and SB 10 create NO affordable housing.
Here’s how to zoom with your Assemblymember:
Schedule a zoom with them NOW!
We know volunteers to help you! Just ask at [email protected]!
Find your Assemblymember’s contacts HERE. Doubly important: If you live in a district listed below, it’s a SWING area. So your impact is huge!
HOW TO HOLD THE MEETING: It’s easy!
Reach out to your Legislator's district office (the local office). Tell them that you and 10-15 or more constituents wish to Zoom with the legislator to discuss the upzoning bills.
Get a commitment. They may want a time that isn’t great. Take it anyway.
Offer to set up the Zoom meeting. Get the proper emails to reach the legislator and staff so you can send them the zoom invitation link.
Easy basics before the meeting! Reach out to gather 10 or more like-minded constituents if you don’t already have a group.
If needed, expand your Zoom account limits: you can upgrade to allow bigger crowd, or to exceed the 40-minute Zoom cutoff time.
Choose one moderator to run your meeting.
You may be given a time limit by the office. The legislator may run over it.
If possible, coordinate with your group to gather questions for the Zoom.
Day Of -- Meeting Agenda Moderator introduces the Assemblymember and mentions good things they’ve done.
Moderator describes SB 9 and SB10 and why residents are so concerned.
Q and A: Moderator or members read the questions. Legislator responds.
Be respectful but firm. Lay out concerns. Push back if not hearing what you want.
Ask if your Assemblymember will vote NO on SB 9 & SB 10.
Followup is great! Send a thank you for their time (as well as to staffers who helped).
Soon after, write or call the legislator urging a NO vote on SB 9 and SB 10.
Spread the word on how it went, and what the legislator said or promised.
Are you in a SWING district? You are crucial! See those districts below or at the link HERE!
