High Drama On Capitol Hill

The left's efforts to rebuke President Trump for his weekend tweets (yes, that's what your "public servants" are debating instead of the pressing issues facing our country) hit a speedbump yesterday. Speaker Nancy Pelosi caused an uproar when she violated House rules on decorum by calling the president a racist.

The Hill ([link removed]) reported that House Rules Committee Chairman Jim McGovern warned his colleagues "to be careful with their words during floor debate" and to "check with the House parliamentarian about what language is acceptable." That didn't stop Pelosi.

When Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA) called out Pelosi for her inappropriate statement, she shot back, saying, "I have cleared my remarks with the parliamentarian before I read them." Except she didn't, and the parliamentarian ruled against her.

Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO), who was chairing the House proceedings, refused to rebuke Pelosi. He threw down the gavel and "abandoned the chair ([link removed]) ." It was left to House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer ([link removed]) to declare that Collins was correct and that Pelosi had in fact violated the rules.

The Democrat majority voted to give Pelosi a pass and then voted to condemn the president's tweets.

Don't overlook Pelosi's selective outrage. When Rep. Ilhan Omar engaged in blatant anti-Semitic attacks, Nancy Pelosi did not go to the floor of the House and say that Omar's statements were anti-Semitic.

When pressure grew to condemn Omar, Pelosi engineered a statement that was merely a generic catalogue of everything bad in the world. It diminished the unique evil of anti-Semitism, which killed six million Jews, failed to name Omar and contained an entire page condemning Islamophobia and anti-Muslim bigotry.

Speaking Of Racism. . .

Did you hear what Squad member Ayanna Pressley ([link removed]) said over the weekend? She attacked the Congressional Black Caucus for being insufficiently committed to identity politics. Referring to her "seat at the table" as a member of Congress, Pressley said:

"I don't want to bring a chair to an old table. This is the time to shake the table. This is the time to redefine that table. . . We don't need any more brown faces that don't want to be a brown voice. We don't need black faces that don't want to be a black voice. We don't need Muslims that don't want to be a Muslim voice. We don't need queers that don't want to be a queer voice."

What ever happened to just being an American?! Kudos to Rep. Liz Cheney ([link removed]) (R-WY) for calling out Pressley's racism.

If anyone said to a black American, "You're black. You're not allowed to read the Federalist Papers or the Constitution," everybody would denounce that person as a racist, and they would be right to do so.

No one can dictate what a man can read simply because of his skin. So how is it acceptable for progressives to declare what an entire race must believe? Or how they must vote?

That is what the left has been doing for decades. That is what identity politics is all about. Because you are [fill in the blank] the left asserts that you must embrace the progressive socialist agenda.

By the way, the Squad repeatedly brought up the president's immigration policies as examples of his alleged racism. Well, a new survey finds that 55% of Mexicans ([link removed]) want Central American migrants deported from Mexico. So are Mexicans against illegal immigration anti-Hispanic bigots?

How Did This Happen?

I am often asked how these four radical, first-term congresswomen have managed to attain so much power and influence. It is a good question, and it is really important to understand how it happened.

As Pressley said at the Squad's press conference Monday, "We are more than four people . . . our squad is big." She's right.

The Congressional Progressive Caucus was started in 1991 with just six members. Today, with nearly 100 members, it is the largest caucus among House Democrats.

But it isn't 100 members that give them power either. They have so much influence and power because they are representing the views a significant percentage of the Democrat Party's base, and a growing portion of the American population.

This growing left-wing movement despises free enterprise and wants to replace it with socialism. They want to erase the differences between citizens and illegal immigrants. They believe America was never great. They despise the police and the U.S. military, and they want open borders.

Decades of identity politics, decades of left-wing universities indoctrinating our children with socialism and anti-American history, and decades of uncontrolled illegal immigration have led us to this point. We're going to misdiagnose the problem if we focus only on four radicals.

The Left's Civil War

If Pelosi thought that yesterday's anti-Trump resolution could paper over the simmering divisions among Democrats, she is sorely mistaken. An increasing number of more traditional liberals are beginning to wake up to the danger they face from left-wing progressives.

Rep. Henry Cuellar ([link removed]) (D-TX) blasted the emerging primary challenges being organized by Justice Democrats, the group that recruited the Squad. Cuellar said, "They're not Democrats quite honestly. They're socialists."

He also made a very telling observation. Cuellar noted that hatred toward Israel is one of the main issues driving the progressive movement, saying, "They're going after Juan Vargas (D-CA), and the reason they're going after him is because he has a very strong pro-Israel voting record."

But there's more.

The Squad sat down for an interview with CBS's Gail King, who asked if they were regularly speaking with Nancy Pelosi to work out their differences. Rashida Tlaib ([link removed]) dissed Pelosi and played the race card yet again, saying:

"She is speaker of the House. She can ask for a meeting to sit down with us for clarification. . . Acknowledge the fact that we are women of color, so when you do single us out, be aware of that and what you're doing, especially because some of us are getting death threats. . ."

So Nancy Pelosi's prejudice is responsible for the Squad receiving death threats? Good to know.

Other Headlines

* Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer ([link removed]) is embracing reparations. That's further evidence of the left's influence, as well as the Democrat Party's growing extremism. Only 21% ([link removed]) of voters support reparations.

* Dr. Leana Wen ([link removed]) was abruptly "aborted" as the president of Planned Parenthood after just eight months on the job. Wen reportedly wanted to focus on "a broad range of public health policies, not just abortion." But abortion has always been Planned Parenthood's sole business model.

* Here's proof: Planned Parenthood clinics are now rejecting federal tax dollars ([link removed]) thanks to new Trump Administration regulations. If forced to choose between performing abortions and accepting federal dollars, the clinics would rather be able to destroy more innocent babies than help more women with whatever services those tax dollars would provide. Now that is clearly pro-abortion!

* President Trump won another big legal victory you are unlikely to hear about from the mainstream media. The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed a lower court ruling blocking three executive orders ([link removed]) related to civil service reform. These orders will greatly boost the president's ability to "drain the swamp" by restricting government unions and firing unproductive bureaucrats.
