[1]Cori Bush
We witnessed a big loss for our democracy today,
John.
Cori and House Democrats passed The For the People Act back in March to
expand and protect voting rights. But today, Mitch McConnell and Senate
Republicans blocked The For the People Act from even being debated on the
Senate floor.
Once again, the Jim Crow filibuster won, and our democracy lost.
It's plain and simple: White supremacy is the greatest threat to our
democracy, and voter suppression is white supremacist violence.
Across the country, Republicans in state legislatures have introduced over
380 bills restricting voting rights in 48 states this year because their
strategy for winning elections hinges on making it disproportionately
difficult for Black and brown people, working people, and people with
disabilities to vote.
Black people, and especially Black women, marched, fought, and bled to
make our voices heard at the ballot box — and for the right to participate
in this democracy, a right at first only afforded to property-owning white
men. We cannot claim to be a just nation if we continue to disenfranchise
our own citizens.
As long as the filibuster remains intact, our country will continue to
fail to live up to its fundamental promise of one person, one vote.
Cori is leading the movement to end the filibuster and white supremacy in
all its forms in this country, but she can't do it alone. [ [link removed] ]Can you make

Cori has a simple message for everyone who refuses to end the filibuster:
Join us in saving lives or get out of our way. Because to refuse to
abolish the filibuster under the guise of bipartisanship is to blatantly
and naively ignore the dangerous state of our democracy.
It's voting rights or it's the filibuster.
It's LGBTQ+ rights or it's the filibuster.
It's at least a $15 minimum wage or it's the filibuster.
It's D.C. statehood or it's the filibuster.
It's our very survival or it's the filibuster.
Our end-of-quarter fundraising deadline is coming up next week, so we need
your support now more than ever. [ [link removed] ]Will you chip in $5 or
anything you can today to help Cori as she works to end the filibuster and
create a new kind of politics that puts people first?
In solidarity,
Team Cori
