John,
Today, the Senate failed to pass a motion to proceed with the For the People Act. But our fight for voting rights and accessibility to the ballot box isn’t over -- it’s not even close. This procedural vote isn’t the end of the road for this legislation in the Senate. We can still pass the For the People Act -- but it’s going to take all of us working together to make its passage possible.
Email your senators today and urge them to support the For the People Act. We’ve called on you to contact your elected officials often -- and the fight to protect voting rights across our country with this legislation has been a long one. But we can’t stop now. If we don't act now to protect and expand voting rights, the consequences will be felt for years, if not decades. In every election, people -- and especially people of color -- will have to overcome bigger hurdles to vote in districts that are increasingly skewed in favor of one party, and a small few will continue to have an outsized influence on our political process.
Let’s be clear: Our democracy is on the line. Our leaders must pass the For the People Act to create national standards to ensure that we can safely and freely cast our ballots, ensure ALL Americans can make their voices heard, and elect leaders who deliver on our priorities. Email your senators today to urge them to support the For the People Act and to let them know our fight isn’t over. Thanks for being a part of our team. We’ll be back with more updates soon.
