Friends:

I wish I had better news to share tonight. Senate Republicans just voted to block the For the People Act.

It is just outrageous that Republicans would vote in lock-step to undermine our democracy and erode the fundamental right to vote.

But this vote is simply a symptom of a much larger problem: The filibuster. 

Because of this outdated, inherently undemocratic Senate rule, Republicans were once again able to defy the will of the American people.

Enough is enough. It’s time to get rid of the filibuster. We cannot let Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans abuse the filibuster to undermine our democracy and dismantle voting rights.

If you agree, and you’re with me in this fight, I’m asking you to make a contribution to my campaign tonight. I don’t take money from corporate PACs or individual lobbyists, so I really do rely on grassroots supporters chipping in $15 or $25 to fuel my work.

We don’t yet have unanimous support among Democrats for reforming the filibuster. We don’t have the votes today, and we likely won’t have the votes next week, either.

But I promise you I’m working hard, and having the tough conversations, to build the case for why this is urgently needed. And I so appreciate you standing with me in this fight.
