the Trump administration refused to stand by conservation efforts, even denying protections for Monarch butterflies on the west coast, which some experts say could be extinct in just a few short years without action.
John,
Even though it’s been about six months since President Trump left office, we’re still working to reverse the damage he and his administration inflicted on the environment. We’re heartened to see that the Biden administration is reversing policies that the Trump administration implemented to weaken the Endangered Species Act.
The Endangered Species Act is one of the most successful conservation laws in our history. It’s been credited with the recovery of the bald eagle, humpback whale, grizzly bear, and dozens of other endangered species. It has helped keep 99 percent of protected wildlife from extinction.
But instead of expanding this law, the Trump administration was intent on weakening protections for threatened species in favor of gas and oil drillers who complained about having to work around animals and their habitat.
We are in the midst of a global crisis, with many plant and animal species on the brink of extinction. That possibility threatens to not only upend ecosystems, but would have dire economic and food supply consequences for humans as well.
But the Trump administration refused to stand by conservation efforts, even denying protections for Monarch butterflies on the west coast, which some experts say could be extinct in just a few short years without action.
We’re working to reverse the harms committed by the Trump administration, but our work can’t stop there. Species continue to be threatened by worsening climate change considerations, and we need to act quickly to avoid permanent damage.
Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration.
