In a matter of days, 8 million Americans could be forced to choose between making tens of thousands of dollars in back rent and mortgage payments or risk being evicted and pushed out onto the street.

Even if the federal rent and mortgage moratorium is rightfully extended past the end of the month, it will only be a temporary fix. Whether the federal eviction moratorium expires for good next week or a few months from now, millions of people will still be burdened with rent and mortgage payments they simply can’t afford.
That’s why it’s so important that Congress immediately pass Ilhan’s Rent and Mortgage Cancellation Act — a bill that would cancel rent and home mortgage payments through the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Far too many members of Congress would rather pretend that the pandemic is over than act to help those who are still struggling to make ends meet. Let’s put the pressure on to get this bill passed:
