"The Amazon is on fire, putting Indigenous lives, biodiversity, and the global climate at great risk. If we lose the Amazon, we lose the fight against climate change."
– Sonia Guajajara
The tipping point for the Amazon rainforest isn't near. It's here. If we surpass it, the degradation of the ecosystem will become irreversible, with severe consequences for our global climate. Right now is the most urgent time to act, so we're implementing a new plan of action. Together, we can still permanently protect the rainforest for future generations.
Will you join us by making a monthly donation? Only with your support can we continue to stand with our Indigenous partners and challenge the criminal arson, financial actors, and corporations complicit in the destruction of the Amazon and the violation of Indigenous rights.
100% of every donation goes directly to our program work to protect and defend the Amazon!
According to leading scientists, Indigenous peoples, and experts, the Amazon tipping point will be reached at 20 to 25% deforestation. Current deforestation across the Amazon Basin is at 17% and rapidly approaching 20% in the Brazilian Amazon as we enter the annual burning season.
At Amazon Watch, we are taking bold and immediate action now to protect the Amazon and avert the tipping point. This year, we are launching our strategic plan that builds upon 25 years of work to protect the Amazon rainforest and defend Indigenous peoples' rights, lives, and territories with ambitious goals, including the call to permanently protect 80% of the Amazon by 2025. Will you join us and sustain this work with a monthly donation?
Thank you for your solidarity!
