Friend,
The Republican Party is conducting a coordinated and – while it pains me to say it – effective attack on our voting rights. It's clear as day that after the groundswell of Democratic support at the ballot box last year, the GOP decided that they could only win by fighting dirty. And, friend, they are sinking to new anti-democratic lows.
Conservative legislators have introduced nearly 400 provisions to restrict voting rights. And extremist governors in Georgia and here in Florida have signed those pieces of legislation into law – limiting everything from vote-by-mail eligibility to purging voter rolls to even blocking voters waiting in line from getting a sip of water.
That's a lot to be anxious about, friend, but the good news is this: The House recently passed the For the People Act to protect voting rights – and now, the Senate can follow the lead and do the same. But it's going to take a huge grassroots movement of people just like you speaking out to protect our voting rights so I need your help immediately:
Will you add your name to my petition right now urging the Senate to reinstate basic voting rights protections? I am counting on 2,945 more signatures before midnight tonight, and your name is still missing.
Right now, it's grassroots movements like ours up against far-right dark-money groups. One such group is already planning to spend $10 million to restrict voting access in key swing states.
That's unconscionable, friend. Our Constitution guarantees every American the right to vote – and no dark-money group or political party should ever stand in the way of that foundational right of our democracy.
But states across the country are making it exponentially harder for lawful voters to exercise their constitutional right. It's up to us to stop them. So please, friend, before my midnight deadline, will you sign your name next to mine on my voting rights petition?

Thank you,
Congresswoman Val Demings
