Today.
Today may mark a turning point for our democracy. But not in the way I had hoped.
Later today, the Senate will vote on whether to begin debating the For The People Act, landmark and popular voting rights legislation. This is the big chance we have before the 2022 elections to combat the dangerous voter suppression bills that Republicans have been passing across the country. It’s our opportunity to protect our democracy. But with the filibuster still in place, we need 60 votes to begin debate. That means 10 of Mitch McConnell’s Republican obstructionists. Put another way: it has no chance of passing the Senate with the filibuster in place.
The GOP will block the For The People Act because of the filibuster AND because Republicans want to suppress the vote. It’s as simple as that. So what do we do now? We END the filibuster. And Senate Democrats must do so immediately!
If you agree with me that we need to END the filibuster, protect the right to vote, and preserve our democracy, please support my work today. Chip in $3 or anything at all to fuel this urgent effort to end the filibuster before it’s too late.

If we do not end the filibuster right away, our democracy will only face greater threats. The GOP’s shameless efforts to hide what happened on January 6 led them to use the filibuster to block the creation of a commission to fully investigate the deadly attack on the Capitol.
Republicans will always prioritize voter suppression and protecting people like Donald Trump and Ted Cruz who fuel attacks on our country. And with the filibuster in place, our Democratic majority won’t be able to pass the critical reforms needed at this moment — like getting big money out of politics, LGBTQIA+ protections, gun violence prevention measures, and more. It’s clear: we must nix the filibuster and deliver for the people.
I won’t stop fighting for voting rights — and I won’t stop fighting for our democracy. Chip in $3 right now to help fuel my fight to end the filibuster >>
