Friend, thank you for trusting in me once again as the Democratic nominee for Virginia's attorney general election. Learn how you can help more here:
Friend, it’s Attorney General Mark Herring from Virginia and I just want to say: thank you.
Two weeks ago, I was officially nominated by Virginia Democrats to continue the progress that we’ve made. And our victory was possible because of the help of the Democratic Attorneys General Association and its strong network of grassroots supporters, like you.
But the fight isn’t over. Virginia’s AG race is the only one in the country this year, and this is the first race since Donald Trump was defeated. We can expect national Republicans to do everything they can to try to beat us.
In 2017, Republicans spent over $7,000,000 to try to defeat me, but we won. We aren’t the only winners though: since 2016, DAGA has helped Dem AGs win over two-thirds of their targeted races.
Last week, I had my first debate against my extremist Republican opponent and our visions of Virginia, and this country, couldn’t be more different.
In my time as Virginia’s Attorney General, we’ve accomplished so much. I fought to protect the Affordable Care Act beside my fellow Dem AGs. I fought for criminal justice reforms, that are now the law of the land. I eliminated Virginia’s backlog of untested sexual assault kits. And back in 2014 when I first took office, I was Virginia’s first AG to refuse to defend our state’s ban on same-sex marriage, the same ban that was knocked down by the Supreme Court a few years later.
But these accomplishments have only been possible with the help of grassroots activists, like you, friend. And I won’t stop fighting for justice, equality, and opportunity for everyone.
But my Republican opponent has repeatedly shown that he’ll sacrifice the wellbeing of Virginians for his own benefit – like when he opposed Medicaid expansion and put the health care of over 600,000 residents at risk. Or when he voted against universal background checks and red flag laws, in a state that has experienced more than its share of tragedy when it comes to mass shootings and gun violence. Or when he voted against banning “no-knock search warrants,” the police tactic that contributed to the murder of Breonna Taylor.
Democratic AGs truly are “The People’s Lawyers” and DAGA is the only party committee devoted to electing more of them. Since 2016, we’ve won two-thirds of our targeted races, and with more than 30 AG seats up for grabs in the next two years, we need your support – will you chip in today?
