Ilhan for Congress

Every day, I wake up to attacks and violent threats.

On social media, from my Republican colleagues, and from far-right media outlets that would rather paint me as a villain than actually listen to what I have to say.

Over the past week, I’ve faced even more bad-faith attacks and outrageous lies spewed by far-right Republicans who would love nothing more to divide the Democratic Party and stop our work for progress.

In the days since I spoke out for justice and accountability on behalf of people around the world who are victims of human rights violations, Republicans have not let up. They have made press release after press release, and right-wing media appearance after right-wing media appearance, threatening to censure me and remove me from my important work on the Foreign Affairs Committee.

They are doing all this not simply out of hatred of the fact that I am Black, a Muslim, and a woman, but because they are afraid — afraid of the vision of our world, guided by justice, equality, and accountability, our movement has been fighting for. And they believe that by threatening my job and even my safety, they can stop us from fighting for human rights.

Well, I’m writing today because I want everyone to know that I will never, ever back down. Our movement will never back down. Because lives and livelihoods depend on our work.

In the midst of this onslaught of attacks, I am still exactly where I need to be in Congress, advancing our movement’s work for progress, speaking out for human rights, and voting to take steps to end endless wars.

Our movement is not going anywhere, and your support and commitment are the reason why.

Thank you for speaking out alongside me, even in the most difficult of times. It makes all the difference.

In solidarity,

Ilhan Omar
