Cori published an op-ed in USA Today to commemorate Juneteenth, and she
didn't hold back. In the op-ed, Cori invites everyone to reflect on the
promise of freedom — and the ways in which Black communities are still
denied basic human rights protections and the freedom of a full and
prosperous life.
"As we celebrate Juneteenth this year, I call on all Americans – starting with
my peers in Congress – to make a commitment to freedom and liberation. We must
dismantle anti-Black, white supremacist systems of violence in America and build
a future of care."
St. Louis and communities like it cannot afford inaction. St. Louis led
the nation in police killings over a seven-year period ending in 2020, and
living through domestic violence, carjackings, shootings, and state
violence has all become a part of the routine.
Cori is working to address these crises by replacing our public safety
system's instinct to criminalize with an instinct to provide care.
"We, as a nation, must get to the root causes of violence by focusing first on
preventing violence, and second, by ensuring that when there is a health
emergency, an appropriately trained professional is sent to support those in
need… Our communities need help, and it is our responsibility to provide it."
It's clear that Cori understands first-hand the issues impacting our
communities and the urgent need for Congress to enact transformative
change that will finally end the cycles of responding to trauma and
violence with more trauma and violence.
Cori's ready to lead this movement — but if we want Cori to focus on
legislation and not fundraising, we need help from grassroots supporters
like you.

Cori's leadership in Congress so she can continue calling out white
supremacy, legislating in defense of Black lives, and preparing to
introduce a bill to transform public safety?
