Dear John,

Two big things are happening right now: 1. It's Pride Month, and 2. our annual Youth Advocacy Symposium kicked off today, bringing together nearly 150 young leaders for a week of virtual trainings on standing up to Big Tobacco and creating positive change in their communities.

As we celebrate each of these events, I'm excited to share an important new video interview with Bryce Moore, our 2016 National Youth Advocate of the Year and current Tobacco-Free Kids Ambassador.

"When it comes to the queer community, I constantly see the tobacco industry sponsoring Pride events, and they really make it seem as if they care about us, that they’re on our side. But the truth is that they are not. They can’t be for us because we are about the safety and well-being of our community, and we are not about using products that harm us and kill us."

Bryce's passion for tobacco control began at a young age after seeing his beloved grandfather struggle with a pack-a-day menthol cigarette addiction. Bryce joined Generation Free, Mississippi’s youth anti-tobacco organization, founding a chapter at his high school and serving on the organization’s youth advisory board for four years and on the college board for two years. He has advocated for policy change at the local, state and national levels. In his home state, he worked with the Mississippi Tobacco-Free Coalition of Harrison County to help pass local smoke-free policies to help protect his community from secondhand smoke. He's now fighting for federal policies to eliminate flavored tobacco products.

As a Tobacco-Free Kids Ambassador, Bryce helps to train and inspire new young leaders. And right now, the next generation has assembled at our Symposium to learn from other seasoned advocates just like Bryce.

This work is only possible because of supporters like you. Please consider making a monthly sustaining gift to support our youth initiatives.

Thanks for all you do. And please make sure to watch Bryce's video.

Sincerely,

Portia Reddick White
