When you’ve lived the struggle that other politicians just talk about, you know how much elections matter.
I grew up in the West End of Louisville, and for years, I lived in the poorest zip code in the Commonwealth. I almost died in front of my daughters in the hospital because I rationed my insulin to make sure our family had enough money for food. And, I’ve lost too many people I love to gun violence.
So, I know firsthand the impact of failed politicians like Rand Paul and the harmful effects their policies have on communities like ours. That’s why I’m asking you today to help us build the people-powered movement we need to challenge Rand Paul and create a new kind of politics that lifts up ALL of us.
We can’t afford to re-elect a politician who has centered his agenda on defending the big lie that fueled an insurrection, spreading disinformation about COVID-19, and blocking progressive policies like a Green New Deal and Medicare for All.

This fight is personal to me, John.
When you’ve struggled to afford your medication, you know that universal health care isn’t just a nice idea, it’s a necessity.
When you’ve seen your family members and friends lose their lives to gun violence you don’t hide behind vague talking-points, you proudly fight for gun safety.
When you’re working to the bone to pay for rent and groceries while Rand Paul passes tax-cuts for the top 1%, you understand the economic injustice that exists in our country.
These are the struggles that I and so many Kentuckians have lived.
So when I hear Rand Paul proudly oppose policies that would ensure we all have enough money in our pockets and have clean air to breathe — I know he doesn’t represent us.
