“Do you believe it’s appropriate for the President of the United States to ask a foreign leader to investigate a political rival? Yes or no?”
It was a simple question—one that should have been easy for Cory Gardner to handle. But instead of saying “yes” or “no,” Gardner refused to answer.
To their credit, the reporters tried repeatedly to extract a response. But each time, Gardner dodged the question.
Cory Gardner first ran for the Senate in 2014. “When my party is wrong,” he promised, “I’ll say it.”
Five years later, Gardner’s silence has been deafening.
We deserve a senator who will stand up to the President (or at least answer our questions!), instead of ducking for cover. We’ll get a senator like that next year—when we replace Cory Gardner.
You and I know that Donald Trump’s conduct was not only inappropriate but illegal. And here’s my hunch, Friend: Cory Gardner knows that too.
But like many politicians, Gardner seems more interested in keeping his job than doing his job. That’s one of the reasons he’ll be looking for a new job soon.
