Pride Month is a time to celebrate the accomplishments of the LGBTQ+ community while also recognizing the work we still have left to achieve full equality. The House voted to pass the Equality Act in February — it’s now Pride Month and LBGTQ+ rights are still unprotected.

Under federal law, it is still legal to be discriminated against on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. The Equality Act will prevent this kind of discrimination, but Senate Republicans are blocking the legislation.

LGBTQ+ rights are under vicious attack across the country as state legislatures push through discriminatory legislation. It is unconscionable that someone can be denied housing, health care, and equal protection because of who they love or how they identify.

We need equity and justice for the LGBTQ+ community. This Pride Month, we must build on generations of activism and make history by passing the landmark Equality Act.
