As a member of The Trevor Project’s research team, I show up every day knowing that by doing what we love, we are here for LGBTQ youth.

Hi there Friend,

I’m Myeshia and I’m The Trevor Project’s Senior Research Scientist. Throughout this Pride season, you’ll hear time and again that it’s supporters like you that help us be here for LGBTQ young people. I wanted to take some time to tell you exactly how you help us to do just that.

Our goal as a Research team is to produce thoughtful investigation and documentation that brings new knowledge to the field of suicidology. Research tells us how we can get to a world where LGBTQ youth suicide is a thing of the past. Your support enables us to learn more and get closer to that reality every day.

This Pride season, I have the opportunity to reflect on why I do the work I do. I got into this field to make a difference and I am given that opportunity at The Trevor Project.

One of the best ways for me to be here for LGBTQ youth is to show, in whatever ways that I can, that we are accepting of them without caveats or exemptions. By simply sharing the work I do, and also in living out loud in my queer identity, I am able to show that I am here both for and with them.

Every year I work with my team to produce the National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health ([link removed]) to highlight the issues facing young people today. We found that 42% of LGBTQ youth, including more than half of transgender and nonbinary youth, seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year. Yet, nearly half could not access the mental health care they desired.

Knowing this, The Trevor Project is able to adjust our strategy and grow as an organization providing direct crisis services. Read more about our findings in this year’s National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health: ([link removed])

Without your support, my team wouldn’t be able to do the work we do. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I hope you feel a sense of Pride knowing you’re a part of the solution to end LGBTQ youth suicide.

Wishing you a happy and healthy Pride,

Myeshia Price-Feeney, Ph.D.
