Last night, House Democrats voted to condemn Trump’s series of Tweets saying Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, and I should all go back to the countries that we came from. All but 4 House Republican chose silence instead.
As Congresspeople, elected and sent to Washington to represent the American people, it is abhorrent -- and frankly embarrassing -- to have colleagues who are unwilling to stand up against the President’s racist attacks. But that’s where we are today.
The attacks from Trump will keep coming, and he and his supporters are already at work trying to defeat us in the next election, whether in the primaries or the general.
All 4 of us are fighting every day for economic, racial, and environmental justice for all Americans and to make sure that people who come to our country in search of a better life are able to seek refuge.
The truth is that Trump is lashing out because he’s scared of our power and the progressive policies we are working for in Congress like repealing the Muslim ban, enacting Medicare for All, and the Green New Deal.
He would love nothing more than to divide our country based on the color of our skin, gender, sexual orientation, immigration, and how we pray. We cannot allow him to chip away at our solidarity.
The President is carrying out mass deportations. He is committing human rights abuses at the border, keeping children in cages, and having human beings drink out of toilets.
And let us not forget that this is the same President that has overseen the most corrupt administration in our history and pursued a racist agenda while he transfers millions of dollars in tax cuts to massive corporations.
To distract from all of this, he launched a blatantly racist attack on four members of the U.S. House of Representatives, all of whom are women of color.
We have a choice right now. We can either enable this president and report on the pile of garbage that comes out of his mouth, or we can come together in radical solidarity to denounce his white supremacist agenda and build an America that we all can call home.
Every person who donates today will send an unmistakable message to Trump that his remarks are absolutely unacceptable.
