[1]Women's March
Hi John. First off — I want to
say thank you.
Over the weekend, I went through your answers to our Reproductive Rights
Survey. Thousands of Women’s Marchers took the survey to tell us why you’re personally invested
in this work to defend our reproductive freedom and to share how you all
think we should organize against the GOP's latest barrage of attacks on
Roe v. Wade.
It fills me with hope to see how many of you are ready to rise up in this
fight with us. If we continue working together like this — we can protect
our reproductive rights at the local, state, and federal levels.
Here are some of the answers Women’s Marchers shared when we asked “Why is
protecting Roe v. Wade important to you?”:
* I had an abortion to save my life when I was diagnosed with an
aggressive type of pre-cancer of the cervix. I believe in a woman’s
right to the freedom of choice for her own body no matter what.
* A woman has a right to decide what is best for herself. No one should
have the power to make that decision for her.
* A college friend almost died because of a back street abortion.
* Abortion saved my life. Abortion IS health care. Abortion is for all.
* Abortion has existed for hundreds of years, most of which were
illegal. Women died. Legalized abortion has stopped that. BESIDES
government has NO RIGHT to tell a woman what she can do with her body.
* As a feminist in the 1970s and 80s, I saw the success we had for
women's reproductive rights. In my 70s now with a daughter and a
granddaughter I am dismayed at how our nation has regressed. A
minority's values are being forced on us all. Women are fully capable
of choice, but some want to take our freedom away. No going back!
I was beyond moved reading these answers. They reflect a powerful truth
that inspires us to fight harder than ever: Reproductive health care IS
health care.
In the past few weeks alone, we've seen more dire threats to our
reproductive rights and freedoms than we have in a decade. That isn't an
exaggeration — Roe v. Wade is under direct threat from the Trump-packed
Supreme Court at the federal level, and states across the country are
plotting every way possible to block access to abortion.
Together, we will organize, mobilize, and march to make our voices heard
and make sure our reproductive rights are protected.
