John,
Americans who work 40 hours a week should not have to choose between paying their rent and paying for necessary medications.
But recently, eight Democratic Senators sided with Republicans and took the $15 minimum wage out of the proposed pandemic relief legislation.
While so many are struggling to make ends meet through this pandemic, let's take a stand to ensure that every American has a fair, livable minimum wage.
SIGN THE PETITION now to urge the Senate to pass $15 minimum wage >>
It doesn’t take an economist to see that the minimum wage hasn’t kept up with inflation. A person working 40 hours a week on the federally mandated $7.25 for workers makes only $14,500 annually!
There are currently 32 million Americans trying to scrape by on that income. Forcing American families to divide that little money between rent, utilities, food, healthcare and other necessities is inhumane and unjust.
I am proud to say that in Oregon, we have been fighting against that injustice for some time. The work done to raise the minimum wage in our state so far has improved the lives of at least 360,000 workers. It's time for all Americans to get the financial security they deserve.
We need 1,500 more signers to get the attention of the Democrats in the Senate who don’t support raising the federal minimum wage. SIGN NOW to join the fight to help get a $15 minimum wage passed >>
Thank you for taking a stand,
Ellen
