John -

UnitedHealthcare is one of the largest private insurance companies in the nation. They recently announced that they plan to assess emergency room claims to determine whether or not visits were “actually a medical emergency.”

If their board doesn’t think it was actually an emergency, the patient won’t receive any coverage.

There’s been such an outcry from patients and backlash from the public that the insurance company is supposedly “delaying the policy.” But this just goes to show how broken our healthcare system is: bureaucrats are pouring over your medical records, hoping to stick you with a back-breaking bill if they decide you didn't *really* have an emergency.

I’ve been denied coverage by UnitedHealthcare for my diabetes medication. I’ve had to skip taking my prescriptions because I can’t afford them.

No hard-working family should have to worry if they can pay for a doctor’s visit or fill a prescription they need. We must finally take common sense steps to build a single-payer health care system so that no one goes without care because they can’t afford it.

It’s time to get corporate executives out of the exam room.

One of the fundamental reasons I’m running for Congress is to push for single-payer healthcare. Will you chip in $500, $250, $100, $50, $25 or any amount you can afford today?
