Let’s celebrate World Giraffe Day and the world’s longest legs! But, quick question, where do giraffes belong? Kept safe in the wild, or held captive for our ‘entertainment’?

Edinburgh Zoo’s new giraffe facility reportedly cost £2.8m, but houses just five giraffes amidst concrete and bars, in an enclosure a fraction of their natural habitat. Giraffes can suffer badly in captivity, and imagine what Born Free could do with such a sum!

“This huge amount could fund our giraffe conservation programme in Kenya for over ten years, benefitting thousands of wild giraffes,” explains Dr Nikki Tagg, our Head of Conservation.

Reticulated giraffe are one of the world’s rarest subspecies and fewer than 16,000 remain, a 50% decline in 30 years. But, we’re all about optimism and YOU can help make our new project an outstanding success by adopting our Kenya Giraffe Family.

Do you feel as we do? Celebrate World Giraffe Day by pledging never to visit a zoo and support REAL conservation by adopting our wild Giraffe Family.
