Arlington County Board Chair Matt de Ferranti gave an address highlighting Arlington's economic status. The Chamber then honored public safety personnel and first responders from Arlington County's Police Department, Fire Department, Department of Public Safety Communications and Emergency Management, and Sheriff's Office who have exemplified heroic actions and exceptional performance of their duties. Registration Member: $25 Prospective Member: $35 REGISTER Governor Northam Announces Return to Earn Grant Program Governor Ralph Northam announced a new $3 million investment to pilot the Return to Earn Grant Program, which will match payments from eligible small businesses to provide new hires with up to $1,000 to support their transition back into the workforce. While many companies are offering hiring bonuses, the Return to Earn Grant Program will serve businesses with less than 100 employees that may not have the resources to provide this financial support. This initiative will match up to $500 that a qualifying small business pays directly to a new employee hired after May 31, 2021, either as a lump sum or in installments to offset the ongoing costs of child care, transportation, or other barriers to re-employment. For additional information on requirements and to apply for Return to Earn grant funding, small businesses should contact their local workforce development board. READ THE GOVERNOR'S FULL PRESS RELEASE Chamber Supports Additional Money for Restaurant Revitalization Fund The Chamber encouraged Arlington’s Congressional delegation to support the Restaurant Revitalization Fund Replenishment Act, a bill which would allocate an additional $60 billion to support restaurants. Passed as part of the American Rescue Plan in March, the Restaurant Revitalization Fund is designed to help restaurants make up for lost revenues from the pandemic. However, the $28.6 billion that Congress originally allocated for the program has been insufficient to meet the demand of restaurant operators who applied. The proposed legislation would add the necessary money to fund the applications that have been received. Registration Member: Free Prospective Member: $20 LEARN MORE Chamber Supported Site Plan Amendments to Arlington Neighborhoods Jefferson Apartment Group’s new 423-unit apartment building in Rosslyn will provide much-needed housing, including 12 on-site committed affordable units, and more community benefits. The County Board also approved Shooshan Company adding 20 more apartments to Clarendon West without increasing the building’s structural area and making other changes to fit better with its surroundings. The Chamber was pleased to support County Board approval of these projects.
