Dear John,
What words come to your mind when you think about Central Missouri Community Action or CMCA? Perhaps one or more of our many programs like Head Start, Energy Assistance, or Weatherization come to mind. And, these are great things to associate with CMCA because they are the programs that directly help families in our community! But, there are other words we also hope will come to mind too.
Recently, we asked our staff to share the words that came to their minds when considering CMCA. The words they used most were Community, Empowerment, Collaboration, Relationships, and Leadership. These words reflect the underlying values of our organization - values that we hope are shared through the programs and services we provide to the community.
As a Community Action Agency, our goal is to serve as a leader in facilitating community collaboration to address the causes and possible solutions related to poverty. To achieve success in addressing poverty strong and trusting relationships must be developed so that each member of the community who is involved in seeking solutions is empowered to contribute. Through engaging and empowering communities by building strong relationships and collaboration, CMCA hopes to lead and support positive, lasting changes to eliminate poverty.
Thank you for being a part of our community and for supporting these important core values!
Weatherization Improves Lives It was the middle of winter when a CMCA Weatherization auditor visited Carla’s mobile home to do an initial audit of the property. The heating and cooling system wasn’t working well so Carla and her family were using space heaters and the family’s kitchen stove for warmth. As the Auditor spoke with Carla he heard the anxiety in her voice related to the situation.
His first step in auditing the home was to crawl under the mobile home where he found the trunk line completely disconnected.
“The air infiltration was also very high,” said the auditor. “When I did the initial blower door test, the linoleum floor in the kitchen raised off the ground like a balloon!”
After completing the audit, a list of items that needed attention was made, including work on the Heating, Ventilations, and Cooling (HVAC) system.
“We were able to install a new heat pump for Carla, and reconnect the trunk line while installing additional floor insulation,” said the auditor.
After the work was complete the auditor called Carla to schedule a follow-up inspection. Carla said she and her family were thrilled with the improvements made to their mobile home.
“I love you!” Carla said, “because you helped us so much! Thank you for making our home a better place to live!”

Donor Spotlight - Why I Support CMCA How did you learn about Central Missouri Community Action? I was interested in the Foster Grandparent Program and through this activity I became familiar with CMCA.
What made you decide to donate to CMCA? How has donating to CMCA impacted you personally? I know it’s a good way to help the immediate community
If you could share one thing with someone about why supporting CMCA is important, what would that be? We are all in need at one time or another, so pay it forward so that someone else can benefit and perhaps they will also pay it forward.
