Hi, Will you sign the petition to stop Republicans from gerrymandering their way to electoral wins? This year, state legislatures are redrawing electoral maps based on 2020 census data. This process will have huge impacts on the makeup of Congress for the next decade. But Republicans are unleashing desperate, aggressive moves to gerrymander their way to victory—even if that means manipulating district data and mapping technology to their own benefit. And if it follows any historical precedent, gerrymandering will only continue strategically disenfranchising Black voters. Fair district maps are critical to the future of our democracy—which Republicans are currently doing everything to undermine. Can we count on you to help stop politicians from abusing their power? Because House seats are reflective of shifting state populations, Republicans have the advantage in 2021—as Texas and Florida are likely to gain seats because of their growing population, while New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania are likely to lose. Republicans see an opportunity to flip the seats they need to regain control of the House in 2022, especially through gerrymandering.1 In 2019, a right-wing Supreme Court failed to block partisan gerrymandering.2 Which means that this year, Republican lawmakers are essentially given license to totally disregard democratic processes, suppressing voters’ voices to ensure their party wins. HR 1, the transformative democracy reform bill waiting to pass the Senate, would require that each redistricting map pass a two-part statistical test, filtering out biased and manipulated data. Politicians shouldn't be able to draw partisan lines and divide districts, especially at the expense of racial justice. The only way to stop Republicans from rigging the maps is to demand that Congress ban partisan gerrymandering now! Sign the petition: No gerrymandering in the redistricting process!
