Another busy week is complete! To keep you updated, I want to provide a brief overview of the important things taking place in District 59.

But first, a reminder that COVID-19 vaccines are available to all Floridians aged 12 and over. To find a vaccination site near you, please visit floridahealthcovid19.gov. Or simply text your zipcode to 438829.

Federal Rental Assistance is Available

A recent report from the National Low Income Housing Coalition estimates that nearly 600,000 Florida households are behind on rent. This, in conjunction with the eviction moratorium ending June 30th, will leave many Floridians in precarious housing situations.

Thankfully, the Biden Administration has passed a comprehensive rental assistance program that will apply to most struggling families and individuals. Click here to learn more and see if you qualify! If you need help applying, click here to email my office.

Behavioral Healthcare Tour

Since I was elected and assigned to the Judiciary Committee, I've been hearing about the need for, and working on, Baker Act reforms. I began the week, by touring the St. Joseph's Hospital's Behavioral Health Center to see the system in person.

BayCare's is an impressive, state-of-the-art facility staffed with some of Florida's top behavioral health experts. We talked about the interconected web of mental healthcare, their challenges, and ways we can make the system work better for kids, patients, and their families.

District 59 Open House

On Tuesday, we hosted a District 59 Open House. It was an excellent opportunity to speak with local constituents about the issues that matter most to them. Thank you to everyone who attended, and with things slowly returning to normal, we plan to make these a regular occurrence!

President Biden makes Juneteenth a Federal Holiday

This week, as we celebrated Juneteenth and the liberation of 250,000 enslaved black people in Texas, a full two years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, Congress passed, and President Biden signed legislation making Juneteenth a federal holiday. Yes, this is a great start, but we must remain committed to ending systemic racism in all of its ugly forms, including mass incarceration, voter suppression, workplace discrimination, and more.

Canvassing Kickoff on Saturday, June 26th

Reminder, we are hosting our 2022 Re-Election Campaign Canvassing Kickoff on Saturday, June 26th at 10:00 AM. Last cycle, we won by the slimmest margin of any Democrat in Florida, a mere 635 votes. This means that just a few canvassing or phone banking shifts likely made the difference in our race and prevented Republicans from having a supermajority.  Click here for details and to RSVP.

Can't attend, but still want to help? Click here to donate canvassing supplies to our volunteers!
