John,

100 years ago today, the first woman member of Congress presided over the House of Representatives. Now, a century later, we have a woman serving as Speaker of the House and as Vice President, and 119 women serving in the House of Representatives.

These are all great strides -- but still, women represent only about one quarter of members of the House. We can and must do better.

As a woman, a mother, and a leader in my community, I am proud to be running for Congress to carry on the achievements of my political predecessors who paved the way for people like me to run for office.

With women in office, we achieve policy outcomes that benefit women, children, and working families. From reproductive health, child care, paid family leave, and more, there are policy areas that benefit so strongly from having women in office.

Right now, our district is represented by someone who doesn't seem to care. Mike Garcia voted against the American Rescue Plan , which helped families struggling during the COVID pandemic, and he's voted to restrict access to birth control and abortions.

That's not the kind of leadership we need. We need to strive for more women in elected office -- that is how we level the playing field, that is how we pass legislation that prioritizes women and families, that is how we achieve equality.

So what do you say, can you chip in $5 or anything you can to my campaign today to elect another woman to Congress?

As valiant and outspoken as the women before me, I will not hesitate to call out those who are only using their seats for their own benefits. It’s 2021. It’s long past time for our nation to affirm that women are not second-class citizens.

Even though we are closer to equality than we were 100 years ago, there are still long strides to make. Until women are treated the same way in every part of life, we still have a lot of work to do -- which is why we need to elect more women to office.

This is why I am running for Congress, because I believe we need more compassionate leaders who will strive for equal rights for women every single day.

So on this special day, I'm asking for you to chip in $5 or anything you can to expand this vision to put more women in leadership positions in Congress, like myself.
