Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson recently went on Fox News to tell millions of Americans that Trump's supporters “weren't rioting” on January 6. They were calmly staying “within the roped lines” and actually “in a jovial mood.” Anything else is a “false narrative,” according to Johnson.
We're not buying it, and neither should you. We remember January 6: Members of Congress in gas masks, confederate flags and neo-Nazi symbols, rioters attacking police officers, a video of Donald Trump telling white supremacists “you're very special” -- that's what we remember.
Investigators have already charged over 500 insurrectionists for breaching the Capitol. Johnson knows that, he just doesn't care. If he can keep his position by spreading conspiracy theories, he can keep radicalizing millions of Americans to keep his own party in power.
Allowing Johnson to stay in the Senate isn't an option, because we know we can flip this seat. The GOP also wants us to forget that Johnson only won re-election by 3 points in 2016 -- while Wisconsin's progressive senator, Tammy Baldwin, won re-election in 2018 by 11 points. Don't let anyone tell you we can't flip Wisconsin blue again.
It's not a question of if we can defeat Johnson, but when -- and we choose now.
