John --
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp played dirty to beat Stacey Abrams in 2018, and now he's rigging the election again in 2022.
Kemp recently signed SB 221 into law, which allows unlimited fundraising for state officials from so-called “dark money” groups that don't need to disclose their donors. This legislation is a full-throated attack on Georgia's campaign finance laws that are meant to limit the influence of lobbyists, corporations, and ultra-wealthy donors.
We've seen the damage that dark money has done at the federal level. Super PACs pump tens of millions of dollars into elections every cycle with no accountability. Now, Kemp is hollowing out state laws to do the same in Georgia.
Kemp certainly has the motivation to change the rules in his favor -- it's clear that he is terrified of Stacey Abrams. Largely because of her hard work, Democrats were able to win the presidential election and both Senate seats in Georgia in 2020. Fresh off that defeat, Kemp knows his only path to victory is to change the game to his benefit.
Stacey Abrams showed up when it counted most and delivered for Democrats in Georgia last year. Now, it's our turn to show up for her.
