At the beginning of the week, a Globe columnist issued me an ultimatum -- answer these questions by Friday "in a full and forthcoming manner," or else. Here's a few of this esteemed columnist's questions: Does Jim realize that the First Amendment is a protection against action by the government to curb free speech or the free exercise of religion and that it is not something that applies to a private organization? Does Jim understand that, given the intent, purpose, and application of the First Amendment's protections, this state committee controversy isn't properly described or framed as a battle over free speech or the free exercise of religion, for this reason: It is not the government pushing for her resignation. Rather, it is members of the Massachusetts Republican Party? I'll let these "questions" speak for themselves, and remind the Democrats and their public relations shop at the Boston Globe once again: We do not yield on matters of free speech, free expression, and religious liberty, and we're not about to let you lecture us about our constitutional rights.
