Hello, Friends —

This week, I demanded answers from the FBI on their involvement with January 6, as well as supported several legislative measures to defend our American values. Below is the week in review:

REP. GAETZ SENDS LETTER TO FBI DIRECTOR, PUSHING FOR TRANSPARENCY IN JAN. 6 INVOLVEMENT

Image

I, along with Reps. Paul Gosar, Louie Gohmert, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Bill Posey, sent a letter on Thursday afternoon to FBI Director Christopher Wray demanding transparency on the role their operatives potentially had in organizing and participating in the January 6th Capitol riot. This letter comes as Revolver News exposed the FBI’s involvement in the year leading up to and during the events of January 6th. Unindicted co-conspirators raise many questions about the FBI’s investigatory practices. We still do not know the intricacies of what happened and demand to know what is going on. Through this letter, my colleagues and I are trying to get to the bottom of it.

I joined Newsmax and One America News Thursday evening to discuss the FBI’s role in organizing the January 6th Capitol riot. After the bombshell report by Revolver News exploring the FBI’s involvement in escalating the events on Capitol Hill, the American people deserve answers. I certainly hope our nation’s premier law enforcement organization is not actually working to violate federal law, so I look forward to Director Wray’s response in August to my letter regarding this issue. REP. GAETZ COSPONSORS BILL TO ELIMINATE THE ATF

Image

On Thursday, I cosponsored Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Brian A. Terry Memorial Eliminate the ATF Act. This bill repeals all ATF regulations and guidance after August 1, 2020 to the date of enactment; rescinds hiring authority for the Bureau, and abolishes the Bureau 6 months after the date of enactment. Consequently, Alcohol, Tobacco, and other regulatory functions are transferred back to the FBI.

With this transfer of regulatory jurisdiction, the FBI would be required to publish an itemized list on their website of all confiscated firearms and ammunition possessed by the Bureau, which must be sold to Federal Firearms Licensed (FFL) dealers via public auction before the Bureau closes. All proceeds from this auction would be placed into a fund for the families of border patrol officers killed in the line of duty as a result of Operation Fast and Furious. Any remaining funds not used by 2032 will be redirected to a program awarding states grant funds to establish firearm safety programs.

REP. GAETZ COSPONSORS THE DEFENDING DOMESTIC PRODUCE PRODUCTION ACT

On Wednesday, Representatives Buchanan and Lawson, in conjunction with Senator Marco Rubio, introduced the Defending Domestic Produce Production Act. This bill would help Florida fruit and vegetable growers combat unfair trade practices by countries, such as Mexico. I am proud to cosponsor this legislation, again, because it eases certain thresholds to allow American farmers to petition the Department of Commerce and the U.S. International Trade Commission to investigate illegal subsidies and dumping of Mexican fruits and vegetables in the U.S. market.

REP. GAETZ COSPONSORS BILL TO DEFUND 1619 PROJECT CURRICULUM

On Tuesday, I joined H.R. 3810, the Saving American History Act, which would ban federal funds from being used to implement the instruction of the 1619 Project in K-12 schools and school districts. We must do all we can to stop Woketopia Warriors from destroying our country into a failed state

REP. GAETZ COSPONSORS BILLS TO APPROPRIATELY HONOR LAW ENFORCEMENT

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi continues to politicize the service and requisite honor that we all have for the United States Capitol Police (USCP) officers, who have fallen as a consequence of their service.

On Tuesday, I cosponsored Congressman Louie Gohmert’s bill, which would award four gold medals to those who protect the U.S. Capitol. One gold medal would be given to USCP Headquarters for display; one gold medal would be given to the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, D.C. for display; one gold medal would be given to the Smithsonian Institution, where it will be available for public display; and one gold medal would be given to the Architect of the Capitol, along with a plaque, for public display in the Capitol. These USCP Gold Medals are intended to be emblematic of the appreciation, honor, and respect that us Americans owe all of those that serve in the line of duty.

I also cosponsored Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene’s legislation honoring the sacrifices of law enforcement at the front lines. H.R. 2446 would award three Congressional Gold Medals to the law enforcement officers and those who protected American cities during the Black Lives Matter (BLM) riots beginning on May 26, 2020. One gold medal would go to the Minneapolis Police Department Headquarters, one medal to the Portland Police Department Headquarters, and one to the Smithsonian Institution to display a medal for the public.

REP. GAETZ COSPONSORS THE PRIME ACT

Today, I cosponsored Rep. Thomas Massie’s bill, the PRIME Act. This bill gives individual states the freedom to permit the intrastate distribution of custom-slaughtered meat such as beef, pork, or lamb to consumers, restaurants, hotels, boarding houses, and grocery stores. “Custom slaughter” refers to meat processed in a slaughterhouse without a USDA inspector on the premises. Due to current law, this meat is generally processed for the owner’s own use.

The PRIME Act’s expansion of this “custom slaughter” exemption will allow small farms, ranches, and slaughterhouses to thrive. Please note, however, that the PRIME Act does not require any state to allow the sale of custom-slaughtered meat. It simply allows a state to change its law if it so chooses.

FOUR LANES OF TRAFFIC ARE BEING RESTORED TO THE PENSACOLA BAY BRIDGE

On Thursday, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) provided a fantastic update, related to Pensacola bridge traffic:

FDOT will re-open the Pensacola Bay Bridge to four lanes of traffic in phases, re-establishing the safe and efficient connection between the communities of Gulf Breeze and Pensacola. The traffic pattern will revert to the configuration on the bridge prior to when it was damaged by Hurricane Sally on September 18, 2020.

Two lanes of westbound traffic are now open to motorists and the remaining two lanes of eastbound traffic should be open on June 17. Once completely open, the temporary configuration for the eastbound span provides two lanes of eastbound and two lanes of westbound traffic with no load restrictions, along with a center-lane reserved for emergency vehicles. The speed limit is temporarily set at 35 mph. Repairs to the multiuse path for pedestrians and bicyclists are expected to be complete by Fall 2021.

FDOT is regularly reviewing the contractor’s schedule of the entire Pensacola Bay Bridge Project with the anticipated completion date for all improvements currently scheduled for Spring 2022. Once complete, the new bridge will consist of two parallel structures, each with three 12-foot travel lanes, two 10-foot shoulders, and a 10-foot multi-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists. Additionally, the project includes the reconstruction of the intersection of State Road (S.R.) 30 (U.S. 98/Gregory Street) and S.R. 196 (Bayfront Parkway) at 17th Avenue.

Tolls on the Garcon Point Bridge will be reinstated on Sunday, June 20.

TROPICAL DEPRESSION LIKELY TO FORM IN THE GULF OF MEXICO

This situation is constantly changing, so please stay up to date with the local weather. No matter what is in store with this particular development, we can expect this season’s first tropical system to reach the Pensacola area. According to NOAA’s National Weather Service, widespread rainfall of 3-5 inches is likely from eastern TX to northern GA with 5-10 inches possible for southern LA, MS, AL, and the FL panhandle into early next week.

Regardless of what happens--which can certainly change--please stay up to date with the rain forecast where you live!
