On March 24, 2021, President Joe Biden tasked Vice President Kamala Harris with addressing the crisis at our Southern border. Today marks the 87th day of her tenure in this position and she has yet to visit the border to speak with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, local law enforcement officials on the ground, and see firsthand the crisis that continues to spin out of control under her and President Biden’s watch.
From January-May of this year, CBP has encountered roughly 712,000 people trying to cross the Southern border. For perspective, there were roughly 922,000 encounters in all of 2019 and roughly 590,000 in 2018. There is a humanitarian crisis at our Southern border. People are being used and abused while the drug cartels (who are also the ones who conduct human trafficking) line their pockets.
That is why I made a push this week to bring more attention to this crisis and call on President Biden to remove Vice President Harris from her role as the White House point person overseeing the border and replace her with someone who will take the crisis seriously.
I and my colleagues held a press conference at the Capitol to discuss the crisis and why it is imperative to secure our border and fix President Biden's heinous immigration policies. This is important not only for national security, but for the sake of people being taken advantage of by the cartels.
