Hello,

Today is Juneteenth -- a day to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States.

But the honest truth is that the legacy of slavery and systemic injustice are with us every day. While we have made progress, we know that progress isn't enough when justice and equality are on the line.

On Wednesday I was proud to join my colleagues in the House to establish Juneteenth as a federal holiday. This is an important step forward, and it serves as a reminder of the tremendous work ahead to fully address the systemic racism, bias, and injustice that still exists today.

Today we commemorate Juneteenth and recommit ourselves to the work we have ahead to fight for racial justice. I urge you to use this day to reflect on what we can all do to build a more perfect union for all of people.

In solidarity,

Chris Pappas
