Dear Friend,

Today is Juneteenth, a holiday celebrating the end of slavery in the United States.

While slavery was abolished by the 13th Amendment of the Constitution, a loophole exists that allows slavery as a “punishment for a crime.”

It's simple: When we allow slavery to exist in any circumstance, we violate human dignity.

There is no place in our society where a loophole allowing people to be enslaved should exist -- especially not in our country’s most powerful document. Furthermore, it’s a violation of international law.

Today from 1-2 PM ET, you can also join us in celebrating Juneteenth with the introduction of the Abolition Amendment to end slavery once and for all.

The Abolition Amendment would make it unconstitutional to impose slavery or involuntary servitude as punishment for a crime.

The event will feature special remarks from congressional sponsors Senator Jeff Merkley and Representative Nikema Williams.

Thank you for being in this fight with us.
