Hi Supporter, Today is Juneteenth, a day commemorating Black freedom, and we're joining Outdoor Afro's reflection on what it means to be free in America. For many of us, nature is often a place where we feel free — and it's important to us to pay it forward. While Black freedom is about more than a single day, we hope you will honor this special day by making a commitment to the work and donating to support Black connections and leadership in nature.
Since reaching out about this solidarity campaign, we've been inspired by this community's response. We are so close to raising $25,000 for Outdoor Afro — can you help us get there? In honor of Juneteenth —
when, 2.5 years after the Emancipation Proclamation, 250,000 enslaved Black Americans in Texas finally received the news that they were free — help us raise $25,000 for Outdoor Afro's work connecting thousands of Black people to nature. |
It's been amazing to see everyone outdoors this Juneteenth and participating in Outdoor Afro's call to spend 2.5 hours in nature today to reflect on freedom in America. As Outdoor Afro Founder and CEO Rue Mapp said, "So many of us have found in this experience of 'sheltering in place' that nature never closes, that it is always at the ready, and that it is ready to heal and to teach."
Supporter, give thanks to all that nature does for us and commemorate Juneteenth: chip in to help us raise $25,000 to support Outdoor Afro's work connecting thousands of Black people to nature and making the outdoors more inclusive and accessible to all.
In solidarity,
Jackie Ostfeld
