John,

A federal judge recently overturned a 32-year old assault weapons ban in California — the first of its kind in the nation.

The judge compared assault weapons like the AR-15 to a “Swiss Army knife.” How shameful.

These are weapons of war, designed to kill. And it is an insulting comparison for the families of victims of gun violence.

Overturning this ban is reckless and will put more lives in danger. If you agree that California’s long-standing assault weapons ban should be reinstated, sign on to my petition today:

Especially with the rise in gun violence today, there is absolutely no need for AR-15s to be in the streets in America.

I’m hopeful that our appeals courts will overturn this decision, but we can no longer leave this up to a right-wing judiciary engineered by Mitch McConnell and Republican presidents — not when so many lives are at risk.

Congress ought to act with purpose and urgency, taking cues from California which has led the nation in implementing gun safety reforms.

Will you sign my petition today and make your voice heard in favor of this common sense gun safety measure that has helped curb deadly gun violence in our communities for decades?

We have to do more than just send condolences and sympathies to those who have lost loved ones due to senseless gun violence. We need to be taking action to prevent these tragedies from happening, not rolling back what existing protections we have which will only result in more loss of life.

Thank you for speaking out.

In solidarity,

Barbara Lee
