[link removed] [[link removed]]Dear ,
We’re excited to let you know that today we’re launching a new policy: Arts and Culture for the People.
There’s no question that arts and culture are an invaluable part of the fabric of New York — but despite the vibrancy and economic value they add to the city, independent artists and cultural workers are often left out of decisions that impact their lives.
Black, Brown and low-income artists in particular face disproportionate inequities in their industries, and marginalized communities throughout the city often find themselves with less access to arts education and enjoyment.
It’s time we change that.
Arts and Culture for the People is about rethinking the role of the arts and nightlife in the city we all deserve. It’s about ensuring a just and equitable recovery for industries that have been decimated by the pandemic. And it’s about incorporating the arts more fully into New Yorkers’ lives, from education to public safety to how we experience our public spaces.
As mayor, Dianne would partner with artists and institutions from across the city to develop plans to support and protect arts and cultural workers, build out civic and public arts infrastructure, significantly increase investment in programs for artists and public projects, democratize arts education and expand arts in schools, strengthen economic support for small arts and cultural venues, and more.
