Bipartisan group of 21 senators back infrastructure deal with $580B in new spending

Biden's tax hikes in flux as infrastructure negotiations shift

A poll released this week by No Labels, a centrist political group, found roughly 70% of Americans see a need for urgent infrastructure investment, but that they vary on how much and how to pay for it. The poll surveyed five swing districts currently held by Republicans and found that voters prefer an infrastructure bill of less than $1 trillion, and in all five districts the majority of voters opposed raising taxes.

Still, bipartisan negotiations continue under the auspices of a group of Senate moderates, including Democrats Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona and Joe Manchin III of West Virginia and Republicans Rob Portman of Ohio and Mitt Romney of Utah. Those senators said they had reached an agreement on $579 billion in new infrastructure spending on June 10. The bipartisan House Problem Solvers Caucus, which was also a player in the December negotiations, released a plan on June 9...
