Unanimous Supreme Court Upholds Religious Freedom of Philadelphia Faith-Based Foster Care Agency

By: Bruce Hausknecht

The U.S. Supreme Court has handed down its decision in the much-anticipated religious freedom case,
[link removed]
Fulton v. Philadelphia, which pitted the right to operate a religious nonprofit in accordance with its deeply held beliefs against a city's requirement that foster care agencies not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation.

In a unanimous 9-0 decision, the high court held that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment free exercise rights of Catholic Social Services (CSS), operating as a foster care agency for the city, when it removed CSS as a contractor for refusing to certify same-sex couples as prospective foster parents.

Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the main opinion, which is short – only 15 pages. His concluding paragraph summarizes the court's decision.

"As Philadelphia acknowledges," Roberts wrote, "CSS has 'long been a point of light in the City's foster-care system.' […] CSS seeks only an accommodation that will allow it to continue serving the children of Philadelphia in a manner consistent with its religious beliefs; it does not seek to impose those beliefs on anyone else. The refusal of Philadelphia to contract with CSS for the provision of foster care services unless it agrees to certify same-sex couples as foster parents cannot survive strict scrutiny, and violates the First Amendment. In view of our conclusion that the actions of the City violate the Free Exercise Clause, we need not consider whether they also violate the Free Speech Clause. The judgment of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit is
reversed, and the case is remanded for further proceedings consistent with this opinion."

Once Again, a Colorado Court Finds Jack Phillips of Masterpiece Cakeshop Committed ‘Discrimination’

By: Bruce Hausknecht

Jack Phillips, owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Lakewood, Colorado, has already been to the U.S. Supreme Court once for refusing, on conscience grounds, to create a custom wedding cake for a same-sex couple in 2012. He

won that case in 2018.

But in June 2017, the same month the Supreme Court agreed to hear Jack's case, a Denver attorney who was born a male but identifies as a female called Jack's shop, after reading the publicity surrounding the case, to order a pink and blue cake in order to celebrate his "transition" from male to female. Jack declined. The attorney, who now goes by the name Autumn Scardina, filed a complaint with the Colorado Civil Rights Commission alleging that Jack violated the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act.

Lifeway Research , 78% of pastors believe being a part of a denomination is vital – and 77% believe that their congregations agree with them on this matter.

The study also found that 63% of pastors believe the importance of identifying with a denomination will decline over the next ten years.

The Federal Reserve Goes Woke — Wants to Remove ‘Biased’ Terms like Founding Fathers and Blacklist

By: Brittany Raymer

The

Federal Reserve , the central banking institution of the United States, is apparently going woke, with an internal memo explaining to employees that they should adopt "bias-free language." This includes eliminating the term "Founding Fathers" and replacing it with the more generic "founders."

According to a
[link removed]
report by Fox News, the memo states, "Bias-free language recognizes diversity and avoids stereotyping, demeaning, or excluding people on the basis of gender, race, ethnic group, religion, age, ability/disability, or sexual orientation."

It continues: "Try to avoid words and phrases that may be considered offensive, pejorative, or prejudiced (whether consciously or unconsciously), as these can distract your audience from the ideas/information you're trying to convey."

said that the bill will allow students to "reflect and be able to pray as they see fit."

"The idea that you can just push God out of every institution and be successful, I'm sorry, our Founding Fathers did not believe that," Gov. DeSantis added before signing the bill.
