I’m thrilled to share that our Bay Area Housing Internship Program (BAHIP) Year 3 cohort has officially completed their program year and graduated! Many of them have already been placed in full-time positions at their host agency, and others are pursuing other opportunities in the field.

Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, these dedicated interns persevered, lifting each other up and continuing to learn the skills needed to become effective affordable housing developers. Their presence in our affordable housing movement represents a critically needed shift in our industry -- more diverse voices, more leaders of color, and more housers whose personal background reflects the communities that we serve.

BAHIP: Advancing Racial Equity and Inclusion in Our Industry

BAHIP is a one-year, paid internship program with the goal to help diversify the Bay Area’s affordable housing field by recruiting college students from low-income communities and communities of color into careers in affordable housing development and project management.

The program introduces interns to the affordable housing field, helping them nurture their passion and commitment to housing and racial justice while informing their civic engagement moving forward. With the recent completion of BAHIP’s Year 3, we’ve placed over half of our graduates in full-time permanent positions at leading housing agencies.
