John, The FDA officially announced a decision to eliminate menthol cigarettes, a historic step toward ending decades of Big Tobacco’s predatory marketing to Black Americans. This policy would save countless lives. But for now, it’s only words. The FDA has said it will take a full year – until April 2022 – to issue the proposed regulations, but it must act faster to protect kids and save lives. Until the FDA turns its promise into action, Big Tobacco will continue its decades-long targeting of kids and Black communities with menthol cigarettes – which are easier for kids to start smoking and harder for smokers to quit. That’s why the president of the National Medical Association is calling on the FDA to act quickly, saying: |
