Team,

Today the Supreme Court ruled in Fulton v. Philadelphia that a Catholic foster care agency in Philadelphia has the right to deny gay and lesbian couples.

Let's be clear: There should not be a right to discriminate against LGBTQ Americans.

While the case was narrowly decided about this one circumstance, it still sends a troubling message. It's clear this decision is a ruling against loving foster parents purely based on who they love and how they identify. Foster children deserve loving homes, and denying them caregivers because of bigotry is plain wrong.

We all have work ahead to ensure that all Americans, regardless of sexuality or gender identity, have equal protection under the law, and the Equality Act is an important step in that fight.

I'm going to roll up my sleeves and keep working to ensure all Americans have the full equality under the law they deserve.

Thank you,

Chris Pappas
