Friend,
In a moment, I'm going to ask you to add your name to Evergreen and Sunrise's joint "No Climate, No Deal" action. But first, I want to introduce myself—and take a minute to talk about a huge victory worth celebrating.
I'm Evergreen's new Campaigns Director, a New Mexican transplant in D.C. Before joining Evergreen last month, I was at Sierra Club, where I collaborated with environmental justice and Indigenous advocates across the country to keep fossil fuels in the ground. We organized against Keystone XL for more than a decade.
So you can imagine the joy I felt last week when TC Energy announced it was pulling the plug on Keystone XL. In fact, I bet you shared in it.
This is what happens when we refuse to give up. When we refuse to believe that a fossil fuel future is the only future we can have. When we demand a better one.
Today, demand it with us: Sign Evergreen and Sunrise Movement's joint petition at NoClimateNoDeal.com to demand every Democrat in the Senate and the House oppose any infrastructure bill that doesn't include climate!
Thanks to the tireless organizing of Indigenous activists, Midwest ranchers, and folks like you across the climate movement, President Biden responded to our demands on Keystone XL, canceling TC Energy's permit on Day One of his presidency.
The corporation saw the writing on the wall—and now, Keystone is done. Good riddance. That oil is staying in the ground.
But the fight for a just, inclusive clean energy future continues. I am continuing to organize against dirty fossil fuel infrastructure and specifically against the Line 3 tar sands pipeline. I am also organizing, along with the full team at Evergreen and our partners at Sunrise Movement, to ensure any infrastructure bill that comes across Biden's desk includes the transformational investments we need to fight the climate crisis. It's just one bill, but my experience tells me that even one bill, one stroke of a pen, or one more activist raising their voice can determine the kind of future we're going to live in.
It's never too late to get involved: Add your voice to the growing chorus of activists, members of Congress, and Americans across the country saying, "No climate, no deal."
Thanks,
Lena Moffitt
