As mayor, LaToya Cantrell has created an LGBTQ+ liaison office in City Hall and undertaken a needs assessment for the LGBTQ+ community. She has also taken steps to ensure fairness and equality throughout the city, including leading the effort to establish the Human Rights Commission in the city charter.

Thanks in large part to her efforts, New Orleans received a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign Municipal Equality Index.
