We wanted to take a moment to review all that Katie has done for her constituents and all Americans this year.
John: it’s hard to believe, but we’re close to the end of another quarter—and nearly halfway through with 2021.
While it’s going to be important for our team to hit our end-of-quarter fundraising goal by the end of this month, we also believe it’s important to reflect back and share the things Katie has accomplished during the first half of this year because of your support.
Here are just a few things Katie Porter has gotten done so far this year:
- Fought for single parents (and their children) to receive the same benefits that married parents receive by exposing the “single parent penalty” in the COVID-19 relief package, which places stricter income limitations on single parents than married parents in qualifying for the child tax credit.
- Joined the Natural Resources Committee and was elected to serve as Chair of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations to hold corporations and special interests responsible for the climate crisis accountable.
- Joined the House Oversight Subcommittee on Government Operations to get to work on restoring the public’s trust in government.
- Was elected as deputy chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and pushed for no less than $1.9 trillion to support families in the pandemic rescue package.
- Published a bombshell report that exposed the devastating effects of mergers and acquisitions between Big Pharma companies and showed how consolidation curbs innovation at the expense of the American people.
- Questioned a Big Pharma CEO about the industry's lies about research and development and demanded answers around skyrocketing drug prices.
- Demanded that health insurers publicly commit to not charging for vaccines, so families wouldn't hesitate to get them and communities can focus on getting as many people vaccinated as possible to stay safe.
- Pushed for fully funding the IRS to crack down on corporations like Nike and FedEx who cheat the tax code and recover the $1 trillion a year that corporations owe to go back to the American people.
- Was named “Orange County’s most legislatively productive representative” by the Orange County Register for introducing several pandemic-related bills this year.
And John, that’s not even all of it.
