John,

Every year we celebrate Pride Month, commemorating the Stonewall riots that ignited the LGBTQ+ rights movement. We celebrate our friends, our family, and our neighbors in the LGBTQ+ community.

But Pride month is about more than just celebrating. This month is an important reminder of the work we still need to do to create a community where everyone feels welcome and accepted.

A hallmark of my campaign and my administration is that every person who calls Kansas home should have equal opportunity to succeed -- regardless of whom they love, how they identify, or anything else. And I'm proud of the steps we've taken to strengthen protections in the workplace for LGBTQ+ employees.

Today, I urge you all to join me in recommitting to the fight for equality. Let's remember anniversaries, like the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, that were catalysts for change. Let's remember those in the LGBTQ+ community who lost their lives due to violence. And let's commit to becoming better allies.

We've made great progress here in Kansas, but we still have a long way to go to put an end to the discrimination many of our friends, family, and neighbors still face today.

I want to make this clear to every member of the LGBTQ+ community: I will never stop fighting for you. Let's get to work to ensure every Kansan feels loved, safe, and seen.

Thank you,

Laura
