Friend,
You know that we should treat drug use as a health issue, not a criminal problem.
Consider this: 450,000 people will spend tonight behind bars for nothing more than a drug violation. The war on drugs is a waste of resources and a violation of human rights.
And consider this: drug overdose is the leading cause of accidental death in the United States. The war on drugs has done nothing to make our communities safer or healthier.
That is why we just unveiled the Drug Policy Reform Act, a groundbreaking bill that would decriminalize drugs at the federal level.
Now, we need you to help us reach our fundraising goal of $50,000 so we can advance the Drug Policy Reform Act in Congress and make sure the drug war doesn’t drag on for another 50 years.
Friend, on the 50th anniversary, can you give the most generous gift you can to end this cruel and costly 50-year drug war and treat drug use as a health issue, not a criminal problem? Matching funds will DOUBLE your gift.
Are you upset about the lives lost to overdose or the families torn apart due to drug criminalization? After 50 years of a failed policy regime, it’s time to decriminalize all drugs and shift to a health approach. This is the most critical step we can take right now to stop the harm.
We’re more than 50% of the way to our $50,000 matching goal with less than two weeks to go. We need your support to cross the finish line. The generous support of our members helped us make Oregon the first state in the nation to shift to a health approach to drugs by decriminalizing the personal use and possession of all drugs, and expanding access to treatment and health services. But the fight can’t end there. We need federal reform.
The Drug Policy Reform Act will end criminal penalties for drug possession at the federal level and invest in alternative health-centered approaches, expunge records and provide for resentencing, and eliminate life-long consequences associated with drug arrests and convictions, including the denial of employment, public benefits, immigration status, drivers’ licenses, and voting rights. Help us make the Drug Policy Reform Act law.
Friend, we are chipping away at this brutal, costly, racist drug war, but there is still so much more to do. We can’t stop at Oregon. We need to eliminate criminal penalties for drugs and shift to a health approach in more states and at the federal level. Please donate now while matching funds will DOUBLE your gift.
