Climate change poses a measurable threat to global food security in a world in which many people are already going hungry. The United Nations estimates 746 million people face severe food insecurity.

As global temperatures rise, weather patterns shift and farms fall victim to extreme weather events, feeding the world will demand climate-smart agricultural innovation.

The United States and the United Arab Emirates, with support from other countries, created the Agriculture Innovation Mission (AIM) for Climate Initiative, which commits to accelerating global agricultural innovation through increased research and development of science-based solutions to improve food security and drive economic growth.

Join Foreign Policy, in partnership with UAE, on June 30 for the first of a three-part event series that convenes top experts and policy makers in agriculture, food security and sustainability to explore climate-smart agricultural solutions that can feed the world and ensure a sustainable future for farmers.

Our conversation will:
  • Present the situation on the ground and the threats to traditional agricultural practices from climate change through the experiences of working farmers
  • Discuss how companies and countries can best collaborate to minimize carbon-intensive agricultural practices
  • Explore the most promising sustainable agricultural innovations and ways to incentivize their adoption
  • Examine how governments, international organizations and the private sector can contribute to investment, R&D support, local capacity building and farm assistance to drive innovation throughout the food value chain.
You’ll hear from:
  • Hana AlHashimi, Head of the UAE Special Envoy for Climate Change Office
  • Abdulaziz AlMulla, Founder and CEO, Madar Farms
  • Jim Barnhart, Assistant to the Administrator, Bureau for Resilience and Food Security, USAID
  • Ruramiso Mashumba, Farmer, Zimbabwe
